April 2009 Special Issue

The Global Campaign for Education is calling for an exciting action on April 22
The Canadian Teachers’ Federation is proud to take part once again, as a member of the Canadian Global Campaign for Education, in the 2009 Global Action Week, April 20-26, on the theme Youth and Adult Literacy and Lifelong Learning

Here are some suggested steps for Canadian teachers.

1. Register via CGCE Web site: www.campaignforeducationcanada.org/gaw/en.

2. Download The Big Read, school pack, posters, stickers, flyers and other curriculum.

3. Choose the activities and stories that you’d like to use with your class, including reading stories, writing new ones, writing new endings, making a video of a story, etc. You may want to invite a local author or your Member of Parliament to take part.

4. Do The Big Read activities on April 22 if you can or at any point during Global Action Week (April 20-26, 2009).

5. Complete the validation form, and the petition to the Canadian Government for more action.

6. Send both to CGCE @ 321 Chapel Street, Ottawa (or via Internet) along with any other materials that document what you did: photos, videos, drawings, stories, etc.

Join us in reminding the federal government of its commitment to work towards Education for All goals by 2015. As teachers, you can help us make this year’s GAW the best ever yet.

World Teachers’ Day poster contest
Peace: Teach it. Live it.

CTF is seeking entries from creative teachers for this year’s World Teachers’ Day poster contest. The winner not only will have their poster printed, posted and shared with other teachers nationally, but will win a trip for two to Montréal to attend a presentation on peace by His Holiness the Dalai Lama on Oct. 2, just days before World Teachers’ Day. Here's how you can take part: flyer and news release.

CTF is pleased that a growing number of teachers are subscribing to the new Canadian Public Employee Acquisition Club (CPEAC). The program offers discounts on cookware, computers, travel, sport goods and more to CTF Member organizations' teacher members as well as staff. CPEAC is free and complements all other provincial/territorial discount programs currently enjoyed by teachers. CTF Member organizations are invited to share this great discount program with their member teachers and staff by posting a link to CPEAC from their respective Web sites. Find out more on the discounts this month: CTF Welcome Page
