Latin America

As in the Caribbean, Latin America made notable progress at all levels of education during the 1990s. However, given that half of the countries with data available were spending less than 4.5% of national income on education, there is a need to allocate more resources to education.

Partner Objective

The multi-year objective is to assist Latin American teacher unions in collaboration with Ministries of Education.


CTF Support

CTF is involved in efforts to foster a broad alliance with other workers' organizations in Latin America to enable the development of the issue of equality with a gender perspective. This includes strategic actions that enable the standardization of gender equality policy and foster the active participation of men and women to strengthen union structures.




CTF/Partner Activities

·Gender Equality - A workshop to explore international legislation about women’s rights, and to underline the importance of strengthening trade union structures from a gender perspective, was held in March 2008. 45 persons from 35 organizations met in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
