CTF President-designate Paul Taillefer elected at annual meeting of the Canadian Teachers’ FederationOn the last day of the 90th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Canadian Teachers’ Federation (CTF), delegates elected a new President-designate and Executive Committee for 2010-2011. The President-elect will assume the presidency in July 2011, at the end of the term of CTF President Mary-Lou Donnelly which is not renewable according to the organization’s constitution.

Canadian Teachers’ Federation announces citizenship programThe Canadian Teachers’ Federation (CTF) is launching a national bilingual program designed to assist teachers meet the challenges of using a critical thinking model to teach citizenship through active community-based projects. The program, called Imagineaction will be available to Canadian teachers in September.

Teachers go out of pocket $453 on materials and activities for their studentsThe average Canadian teacher was out of pocket by $453 for expenses on classroom materials or class-related activities in the 2008-09 school year, according to a recent survey conducted by the Canadian Teachers’ Federation (CTF). Report on cultural ownership by young people in Francophone minority schools identifies gapsA report prepared by the Canadian Teachers' Federation (CTF) entitled L’appropriation culturelle des jeunes à l’école secondaire francophone en milieu minoritaire shows that much remains to be done to help young people build their culture during their years at school. The CTF report presents the findings of a series of interviews and a national survey of young people attending French-language minority schools across Canada. The issue of cultural ownership by these young people was central to the analysis of the survey data.

RCMP’s by-youth, for-youth crime prevention program launches new and improved website
Ottawa, ON – Feb. 11, 2010 – For DEAL.org, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police’s by-youth, for-youth crime prevention website, it’s out with the old and in with the new.
The award-winning resource, which was created in 1997, has unveiled a revamped and redesigned site.
“As a by-youth, for-youth initiative, we are uniquely qualified to act as a voice for young Canadians,” says Erin Mulvihill, acting manager of the RCMP’s Youth Engagement Section, which publishes DEAL.org. “Improving the site to better serve our target audience will allow us to continue to do that.”
