OTTAWA – The Canadian Teachers’ Federation (CTF) encourages teachers and Member organizations to attend the Peoples’ Social Forum (PSF) from Aug. 21 to 24 in Ottawa. The event aims to promote social activism as well as solidifying connections between the labour movement and those fighting against right-wing policies in Canada.
The Peoples’ Social Forum will take place:
When: 9:30 a.m. on Aug. 21 until 3 p.m. on Aug. 24th
Where: The University of Ottawa campus
- Civil Society groups
- Labour councils and unions
- CTF Member organizations and individual teachers from across the country
The PSF will be broken down into a series of workshops each approximately 90 minutes in length and covering subjects from climate to gender to migration. Educators may be interested in workshops with themes such as:
- Knowledge (education-access-alternatives)
- Public Services (quality-universality-access)
- Governance & Democracy (representation-organization-decolonization)
One of the two CTF workshops will examine how social justice fits in both teaching and learning. The other will study how national and provincial/territorial right-wing pressures impact on public education. Both CTF workshops will be held alternatively in English and French.
Teachers must register before Aug. 1.
