SUMMARY:Violence in Schools: Beyond Quick Fixes
DESCRIPTION:\nViolence in Schools: Beyond Quick FixesA national panel discussion presented by the CTF/FCE’s Source\n\n\n\nTuesday, April 14, 2026 | Tickets are free!\n\n\n\nAcross Canada, violence and aggression in schools are no longer isolated incidents – they are a growing concern in classrooms.\n\n\n\nJoin us for a national panel discussion exploring what violence in schools looks like, why it’s a growing problem, and the solutions needed to make schools safer for educators and students alike.\n\n\n\nRegister to attend virtually and submit your questions in advance. Ten participants will be selected by draw to attend in person.\n\n\n\nThis solution-focused dialogue will explore:\n\n\n\n\nThe social, emotional, and fiscal cost of violence\n\n\n\nWhat governments are failing to address\n\n\n\nWhat realistic steps can be taken now\n\n\n\nHow do we strengthen public education for future generations\n\n\n\n\nRecent national data reveals that:\n\n\n\n\n55% of educators experienced violence or aggression in the last school year\n\n\n\n75% report no follow-up after incidents are reported\n\n\n\n41% of educators do not feel they have a safe work environment\n\n\n\n94% of teacher organizations are dissatisfied with existing protections\n\n\n\n\nThe concern extends beyond educators. A January 2026 survey of parents shows that bullying, aggression, and violence in their child’s school are getting worse. This reinforces that families are also feeling the strain of a system under pressure.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSpeakers\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDarcy Santor\n\n\n\nCross-Appointment Professor, University of Ottawa\n\n\n\nRead more\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nÉric Pronovost\n\n\n\nPresident, Federation of School Support Staff\n\n\n\nRead more\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSherry-Ann Bowen-Gordon\n\n\n\nProvincial Executive Officer, Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation (OSSTF/FEESO)\n\n\n\nRead more\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nNorberta Heinrichs\n\n\n\nPresident, British Columbia School Counsellors’ Association (BCSCA)\n\n\n\nRead more\n\n\n\n\n\nModerator\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nClint Johnston\n\n\n\nPresident, Canadian Teachers’ Federation (CTF/FCE)\n\n\n\nRead more\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nQuestions\n\n\n\nFor any questions about the organization of this event, please contact CTF/FCE Meeting and Event Planner Obianuju Harbor.\n
