President's Forum - Forces for Change - Education Finance

It is my pleasure to invite you and your colleagues to attend the 2nd Annual Canadian Teachers’ Federation President’s Forum to be held in Edmonton, Alberta, July 12-13, 2010 entitled The Funding of Public Education: Great Promise.

CTF is often involved in major discussions with key national and international organizations that influence our education system thereby exposing us to a wide range of opinions and beliefs. We are in a unique position to focus on forces for change in education. The Forum expands understanding on matters of critical concern to teachers. This year we have placed our emphasis on education funding.

The President’s Forum will provide thought-provoking presentations and tremendous discussion opportunities. Rather than a search for solutions (which we may all find in different places) this Forum is a sharing of perspective as we look at external forces for change, especially funding.

The Forum will have national and international keynote speakers. So far speakers have been confirmed from Council of Ministers of Education, Canada, Assembly of First Nations and National Education Association, the Fraser Institute, Education International, Canadian Council on Learning, Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives, and more.  We can be sure that discussions will be broad and there will be a tremendous opportunity to learn from other participants. You too can contribute to the learning of others.

Following each presentation will be an opportunity for you to engage in dialogue with leaders in education from throughout Canada. Your input in the follow-up discussions will be rewarding for you and for others. Simultaneous translation will be provided such that you can participate in either of Canada’s Official Languages.

Cost for this Forum is $200.00 will include a reception. It will take place at the Sutton Place Hotel in Edmonton, July 12-13 immediately before the CTF Annual General Meeting. Register online at A block of rooms has been reserved at the Sutton Place Hotel Register early as space will be at a premium.

I look forward to having you and your colleagues join me at the Forum.

Yours sincerely

Mary-Lou Donnelly
