Media Advisory: Panel of experts to help students get smart about marketing messages at launch of Media Literacy Week

October 25, 2013

Join us on Nov.1, 2013, for a lively discussion on marketing, consumerism and youth with a panel of marketing experts and high school students from across Canada. The event marks the launch of the eighth annual Media Literacy Week, hosted by MediaSmarts and the Canadian Teachers’ Federation (CTF).

View the event broadcast live at 10:30 a.m. (Ottawa time)

Over 120 secondary students taking part in the Encounters with Canada national youth forum will interact with experts from the fields of advertising and marketing, privacy and education. The event will be webcast to classrooms in Yukon.

Media Literacy Week continues November 4-8, with dozens of partnering organizations planning a variety of media and digital literacy events across the country. This year’s theme -- What’s Being Sold? Helping Kids Make Sense of Marketing Messages -- encourages parents and educators to talk to young people about a wide range of issues, including food advertising, body image, marketing practices on cell phones and apps and alcohol and tobacco promotions.
