Half a million Canadian teachers, education professionals and education workers represented at EI World Congress in Ottawa, July 21-26

OTTAWA – Half a million teachers, education professionals and education works in Canada will be represented at the quadrennial 7th Education International (EI) World Congress in Ottawa, July 21-26. The Canadians are among the 2,000 delegates, observers and guests from over 150 countries representing 402 organizations as part of EI’s 30-million membership. They will examine global issues in education, including austerity measures, public education, trade union movements, commercialization of education, GBLTT, Indigenous rights and the prevention of school-related gender-based violence.

EI Canadian Affiliate Members are:

EI President Susan Hopgood and EI General Secretary Fred van Leeuwen will present the top issues at a news conference at 11 a.m., Sunday, July 19. The presidents of the EI Canadian Affiliate Members will also be available at the conference to provide regional and national perspectives.
