OTTAWA – The Canadian Teachers’ Federation (CTF) will hold its 2016 Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Montréal, July 13-15, 2016, at Le Westin Montréal. The theme of the AGM will be “Public Education: Wellness in our Schools”, flowing from that of the Canadian Forum on Public Education which will take place just before the AGM.
The AGM, the Federation’s top policy-making body, will provide teacher leaders from across Canada the opportunity to discuss mental health and wellness in our schools, to debate policy, to approve a budget, and to elect a new executive for 2016-2017 and a president-designate who will assume the presidency in July 2017. The President, currently Heather Smith of the New Brunswick Teachers’ Association (NBTA), serves a two-year term while Vice-Presidents are elected annually.
CTF Awards recipients will also be honoured during the annual awards ceremony on Thursday in recognition of their outstanding contributions to education.
The meeting will also include social events such as the Women’s Caucus Lunch, from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. on July 13, the President’s Reception, from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on July 13 and the Host Night, from 6 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. on July 14.
