CTF/FCE Statement on the Results of the 2025 Federal Election

| Democracy, Election, Political action

Congratulations to Prime Minister Mark Carney on his party’s victory in the 2025 Federal Election

Ottawa, April 29, 2025 – As the President of the Canadian Teachers’ Federation (CTF/FCE) and on behalf of our over 370,000 teachers and education workers in every province and territory in Canada, I congratulate Prime Minister Mark Carney on his party’s victory in the 2025 Federal Election.

During the election period, the CTF/FCE called on the next federal government to take decisive action in the areas of eliminating of child poverty, supporting mental health, and dealing with the realities of climate change. Canadians have given the Liberal Party of Canada a mandate to follow through on their election platform commitments while also electing a Parliament that will require collaboration and partnership to pass legislation. The CTF/FCE plans to work with all parties to advance policy and legislation that benefits public education and education workers in Canada.

We look forward to collaborating with Prime Minister Carney, and all Parliamentarians in the 45th Canadian Parliament. The CTF/FCE endeavours to ensure that public education remains strong in Canada, labour rights remain protected, our social safety-net is there for those who need it, Indigenous reconciliation and gender equality remain a key focus, and that Canada continues to be a great place to live, work, raise a family, and be a teacher or educator.

Heidi Yetman, CTF/FCE President
