2026 Annual General Meeting (AGM)

Agenda

2026 Annual General Meeting (AGM)

Welcome Message

This year, we have the privilege of bringing everyone together again in Ottawa, with representatives from across the country. It’s always a highlight to gather in one place.

We’ve settled into our new offices, just steps from Parliament Hill, and this proximity has strengthened our ability to bring your voices directly into national conversations. It has also been a year of significant transitions. In addition to our new home, we are looking forward to introducing you to some key new staff who have joined us to continue the important work of the CTF/FCE on your behalf. While change can be challenging, it also brings new energy and ideas, allowing us to evolve and build even stronger connections as an organization.

At the same time, public education continues to face significant pressures. Across the country, we are dealing with ongoing challenges related to retention and recruitment, strained resources, increasing incidents of violence in schools, and the rapid introduction of AI without the meaningful consultation educators deserve. Now, more than ever, we need to address these challenges at both community and social levels rather than relying solely on educational solutions. This requires unity and solidarity at a national level to support each of us in our respective provinces or territories. That’s why our strength as a national federation matters. Our solidarity across all provinces and territories allows us to meet challenges head-on, either nationally or jurisdictionally.

In the face of these challenges, we must remember that over 90% of Canadian families rely on public education. The vast majority see teachers and education workers as the most influential actors in our system. This support strengthens our resolve and fuels our work every day. We are working to strengthen connections and collaboration among our organizations, ensuring that the voices of front-line educators are central to our decision-making and advocacy efforts, and working tirelessly to raise the profile of public education across Canada.

I look forward to the valuable conversations at this year’s AGM. They are essential for shaping our path forward and ensuring that we continue to advocate fiercely for our members and for the future of public education.

In solidarity,

Clint Johnston, President
